BMS
Ve.Bus BMS/battery protects
Use this unit if you're adding a Victron Inverter/Charger. it will control the battery loads and charges and communicate with the Inverter/Charger.
Supplied with 2 x Victron battery protect for the loads and charges. Available in 65A or 100A. (non-Victron Inverters can't be connected to the battery protect, use a remote switch for this). (The size of the battery protect should exceed all of your solar/alternator charging combined or all of your non-inverter loads combined, whichever is greater).
We will also supply the kit with the relevant cabling to connect the battery protects to the leisure battery (50cm) and the cabling for the VeBus BMS.
If you're charging from your alternator, use a Victron Orion Smart for this.
This setup is perfect for larger systems and it's what we use for induction cooking and many of our other big setups.
Smart BMS CL 12/100
The Smart BMS CL 12/100 is a Battery Management system for Victron lithium-iron-phosphate (LiFePO4) Smart Batteries. It has been specifically designed for 12V systems with a 12V alternator. There is no need for a battery to battery charger when using one of these.
Supplied with the cables to connect the BMS to the leisure battery and set to charge from the alternator at 25A. (please check with your manufacturer that this charge rate is okay).
Ideal if you're not using an inverter/charger or in 12V only systems.
Battery
Lithium-iron-phosphate (LiFePO4 or LFP) is the safest of the mainstream li-ion battery types. The nominal voltage of a LFP cell is 3,2V (lead-acid: 2V/cell). A 12,8V LFP battery, therefore, consists of 4 cells connected in series.
Rugged
A lead-acid battery will fail prematurely due to sulfation:
• If it operates in deficit mode during long periods of time (i.e. if the battery is rarely, or never at all,
fully charged).
• If it is left partially charged or worse, fully discharged (yacht or mobile home during wintertime).
A lithium battery does not need to be fully charged. Service life even slightly improves in the case of partial charge instead of a full charge. This is a major advantage of LFP compared to lead-acid.
Other advantages are the wide operating temperature range, excellent cycling performance, low internal resistance and high efficiency (see below). LiFePO4 is the chemistry of choice for demanding applications.

Expensive?
LFP batteries are expensive when compared to lead-acid. But in demanding applications, the high initial cost will be more than compensated by longer service life, superior reliability and excellent efficiency.
Bluetooth
With Bluetooth cell voltages, temperature and alarm status can be monitored. Very useful to localize a (potential) problem, such as cell imbalance.
